How to apply
- Watch for the window. Registration opens periodically for each sitting — follow the FDHRC’s channels or check fdhrc.ca; there’s no standing open enrolment.
- Apply online: complete the form, upload a passport-style photo (not filtered, not a photo of your ID), pay the fee.
- Pick your test centre on the form — seats are first-come, first-served, and can’t be changed after the deadline.
- Accommodations must be requested in full by the registration deadline.
- The deadline is hard — late applications are never accepted.
Eligibility
Domestic candidates need to have graduated from a CDAC-accredited Canadian dental hygiene program (confirmed by your program director). Graduates of non-accredited or international programs must first pass an equivalency assessment.
Test day & delivery
The exam runs at test centres only (remote proctoring was discontinued in January 2024), roughly three times a year over a two-day window. You agree to a Candidate Statement of Understanding; the exam is copyright-protected, so its content can’t be discussed or shared.
Results
Scoring takes 4–6 weeks. Unofficial results appear online after ~4 weeks by your ID number; official results are mailed within 6 weeks. A pass comes with your certificate — then contact your provincial regulator to register. A fail comes with a Performance Profile. You get a maximum of three attempts.
Rescore, reconsideration & appeal
| Channel | For | Deadline | Can it change a fail to a pass? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rescore ($206) | Manual re-check of answers vs. key | 30 days | Only if a scoring error is found (rare) |
| Reconsideration | A significant exam-day irregularity | 7 days | No — at most, nullification with no lost attempt |
| Appeal ($206) | Denied reconsideration / disputed decision | 30 days | Committee decision is final |
